Mayor Cal Patterson and members of Wasaga Beach Town Council are pleased to announce the installation of ten 50 foot Mobi-Mat® RecPaths™ at Beach Areas 2 and 5 along the Wasaga Beach shoreline.

Mobi-Mat® are portable and durable rollout mats designed to enhance mobility for pedestrians, individuals experiencing mobility related disabilities and wheelchair and stroller users. The mat provides a portable walkway across the sand allowing for easy access to the water’s edge.

This initiative was spearheaded by the Wasaga Beach Accessibility Advisory Committee with a goal of providing residents and visitors to Wasaga Beach with fully accessible beaches and has been completed in partnership with Ontario Parks (Wasaga Beach Provincial Park.)

«I don’t think words can explain how I felt when I went to the beach today and saw my son, Peyton, riding down that mat. His smile and excitement cannot be described. Thank you, thank you, thank you, so, so much. We were supposed to leave for vacation today but delayed it a day just so he could have fun on the beach and «sand». Thank you for all your wonderful hard work.»

Wasaga Beach Provincial Park will install the Mobi-Mat® each spring, assume maintenance responsibility throughout the summer months and remove and store the mats each fall.

Additionally, the Nancy Island Lions Club has made a commitment to assist with maintenance of the mats throughout the duration of the spring, summer and early fall seasons.

Town Council and staff are very appreciative to Mr. Mark Crowe from Hamount Investments (Stonebridge Town Centre) for his generous donation of $12,000.00 toward the project. Mr. Crowe’s contribution has assisted the Town in becoming one step closer towards creating a fully accessible, barrier free community.
